We regard snack and meal times as an important part of the child's day. Eating represents a social time for children and adults, and helps children to learn about healthy eating.
Meal and snack times are organised to be social occasions in which all children and staff can participate. We aim to provide nutritious food, which meets the child's individual dietary needs.
Due to the high risk of allergies we ask you not to provide your child with a packed lunch that contains any NUT based products.
To promote healthy eating at our club, we will:
- Find out from you your child's dietary needs, including any allergies.
- Record the dietary needs in the registration file and on the display board in the kitchen area.
- Ensure that your child only receives food and drink that is consistent with their dietary needs and preferences.
- Require staff to show sensitivity when providing for your child's dietary needs.
- Provide your child with utensils that are appropriate for their age and stage of development.
- Have fresh drinking water constantly available.
- Discourage the children from sharing and swapping their food with one another.
Packed lunches
When packed lunches are brought into the club we will endeavour to:
- Encourage you to provide sandwiches with a healthy filling, fruit, and milk based deserts such as yoghurt.
- Discourage sweet drinks. We can provide children with water or fresh fruit juice.
- Discourage packed lunch contents that consist largely of crisps, processed foods, sweet drinks and sweet products such as cakes or biscuits.
- Provide children bringing packed lunches with plates and cups and cutlery.
- Inform you about the storage facilities available in the club.
