We are committed to dealing with negative behaviour in a non-confrontational and constructive manner. Negative behaviour will be tackled as per the Behaviour Management Policy. Where these strategies do not alter or stop the negative behaviour, we will take the following action.
We have a 3 stage process in dealing with a child's continual negative behaviour
Stage 1
Your child will be put on a 'behaviour diary' which will involve us keeping a daily diary of their behaviours, both positive and negative.
- Your child will have the opportunity to read or have read to them, our comments and be encouraged to comment on their behaviour.
- You will be offered the opportunity to read, comment and sign the diary.
This method will be used for a minimum of one week or until we feel that the behaviour has significantly improved.
Stage 2
Persistent unacceptable behaviour from a child will result in them being given a formal warning regarding their actions.
- We will explain to the child why their behaviour is unacceptable and the consequences of any further such incidents.
- Children will be encouraged to discuss and explain their actions.
- We will endeavour to help the child develop strategies to avoid repeat incidents.
- You will be made aware of all warnings given to your child.
- Details of any warnings will be recorded and kept in the child's childcare file.
Stage 3
The directors of the club have the right to suspend or permanently exclude a child. Only the directors of the club can and will make any suspension of a child.
The directors will only suspend a child when they feel that there is no alternative course of action left for us to take.
Any suspension will be appropriate to the negative behaviour concerned, taking into account the child's age, maturity and any other relevant information about them and their situation.
In such circumstances, when an suspension is to occur:
- You will be contacted and asked to collect your child.
- We will not allow your child to leave the club until a person named on the registration document arrives to collect them, even if there are arrangements for your child to normally leave the club alone.
- Before your child is allowed to return to the club following a suspension, the directors will arrange a meeting with you and your child to discuss the behaviour, ascertain if it will be possible for the child to resume their attendance at the club and set out the conditions of this return.
- All details of suspensions, including information discussed at meetings, will be recorded and kept in the child's childcare file.
Please note that, in the event of an extremely serious or dangerous incident a child may be suspended from the club with immediate effect.
